Sigrid combines Hanna Somatic Clinical sessions with Cranio-Sacral Therapy a unique fusion of bodywork and exercises. This muscle – brain  reeducation process based on neuromuscular sciences leaves your body physically smarter to move.

Clients with functional issues often experience profound effects in the reduction of  pain, anxiety and stress. They gain greater self awareness and freedom of movement in their body from a 1st person perspective.

In my twenty years of practice I am finding great joy in inspiring and supporting You in your process of discovering a loving relationship with your authentic self through hands – on therapy, exercises and breath awareness.

Hanna Somatic Education

Hanna Somatic Education (HSE) developed by Thomas Hanna  is a rapidly effective system of  neuromuscular (mind – body training) education that enables you to enjoy freedom from pain and greater joy in moving with ease.

What is it?

This gentle, interactive work, incorporates both verbal and hands-on cues to teach you through simple movements, called pandiculation, how to relax the muscles that contribute to discomfort and pain. While moving slowly and with awareness the primary focus  is on internal sensations of the movements. This neuromuscular feedback, reeducates the brain to relax muscles that have been held contracted to soften and lengthen.

Thomas Hanna coined the word for muscles which have become stuck  in an unconscious state of contraction or shortness Sensory Motor Amnesia (SMA). The muscles have actually forgotten on how to relax, (stuck in a tension pattern with the brain), sending a signal of discomfort, then pain. In many cases resulting from overuse, injury, surgery, physical and mental stress and habitual poor posture patterns. Dysfunctional habits within the body can also cause difficulties breathing, undue strain to joints, fatigue muscles and reduce circulation in the body.

Thomas Hanna identified three Reflex Patterns of the body that can contribute to chronically tight muscle patterns, resulting in reduced movement. For example; sitting at a computer for hours with the head in a forward and curled position, typing away or a mom settling the baby on one preferred  hip. 

Reflexive Patterns 

Red Light Reflex; also named – startle reflex, the posture we move into when hearing a loud bang  get startled – the chest and shoulders round forward, the neck and head extended, more common nowadays from prolonged times spent at a computer; resulting in neck and shoulder pain and a rounding of the upper spine (kyphosis) can create difficulties with breathing and digestion issues.

Green light; aka Landau reflex, reflects the military posture with a tightening of the muscles along  the spine, tight gluts, external rotation of the legs and feet, helping to stand erect and move forward, ready- set -go, the alertness of the nervous system in the morning when the alarm clock rings.   Over time this can result in very tight low back muscles, pain and tight hamstrings.

 Trauma reflex –  may result from an involuntary spastic tightening of a muscle group surrounding an injury site to guard against pain -one sided – possibly due to surgery – an exaturated curve in the spinal column (scoliosis) – carrying an infant on a preferred hip side. This can result in a one sided  shortness in the waist muscles creating discomfort and pain.

This gentle, interactive work, incorporates both verbal and hands on cues to teach you through simple movements called pandiculation how to relax the muscles that contribute to discomfort and pain. While moving slowly and with awareness your primary focus of attention is on the internal sensations of the movements for feedback, reeducating your brain to engage the muscles that have been held tight and even painful to lengthen.
